Description
Built in 1871 near the fishing port of Buckie, Inchgower makes a briny, nutty malt that has long been a backbone of Bell's. Adelphi, a Highland independent, selected this single cask, distilled in 2010, and released it at 14 years old in its Selection range. Single cask 809891 gave 452 bottles, released for Europe.
The distillery's spirit is built for body rather than elegance, nutty and waxy with a coastal salt note unusual for Speyside. This bottling matured in a Palo Cortado sherry cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 57.7%, without dilution, the Palo Cortado wood sits between Amontillado and Oloroso, nutty and rich in dried fruit with a saline edge. At 14 years the wood and the salty, nutty spirit are roughly in balance. The recorded notes run to citrus.
