Description
Herradura Directo de Alambique is the fourth release in the Coleccion de la Casa series, a 100% Blue Weber blanco from Casa Herradura at Amatitán in Jalisco, NOM 1119, where the house has made tequila since the 19th century and is credited with creating the reposado style. The brand has belonged to Brown-Forman since 2006.
Two points set this bottling apart. It is fermented with natural yeast, uncommon at scale in tequila, and it is bottled directly from the still at a hefty 55% rather than reduced to the usual 38 to 40%. Steam-cooked and unsmoked, it reads as an undiluted lowland blanco, cooked agave and citrus carried on a peppery, full bodied frame, the high proof amplifying both aroma and the herbal, mineral lean of the Amatitán valley. A blanco for drinkers who want the spirit as the distiller left it.
