Helios Whisky Reki

Helios is one of Okinawa's best-known awamori and rum producers, based in Nago in the far south of Japan. The distillery has long applied its fermentation heritage and island facilities to whisky, releasing the Reki expression as a blended whisky drawn from rum and Ex-Bourbon casks and presented at 43%.

Okinawa's subtropical climate accelerates maturation, coaxing colour and oak character more quickly than cooler mainland cellars. The rum cask component brings forward-facing tropical fruit and a lightly sweet edge, while the Ex-Bourbon wood adds vanilla and a soft woody backbone. A faint smoky character runs beneath, in keeping with the distillery's typical profile, making this an approachable and distinctly southern-island expression.
