A young Hampden low ester at 60.5%, bright with tropical fruit, citrus and light glue, a vivid, drier funk for drinkers who want the house character without the full ester overload, bottled unsweetened.
Description
Bottled by Habitation Velier for the LM&V 5th Anniversary, this magnum is a young Hampden from 2019, drawn from the HES mark, one of the distillery's lower ester recipes. As a Pure Single Jamaican rum it is 100% pot still from a single distillery, at a punchy 60.5%.
The lower mark dials the funk down without losing the house signature: bright tropical fruit and citrus lead, with light glue and a faint medical note giving it a Hampden edge, then a dry, banana tinged finish. Distilled from long wild fermented molasses and matured young in Ex-Bourbon oak, it is unsweetened and surprisingly sippable for its strength. This is a good entry into Hampden funk for drinkers who find the high ester marks overwhelming but still want genuine character.
