Lazy Dodo is a single estate Mauritian rum from Grays, made from molasses rather than cane juice, so despite its French influenced Indian Ocean home it sits in the smooth, aged molasses camp rather than the agricole one. It carries a twelve year statement and has been matured in ex-bourbon oak in the house's accessible, easygoing style.

The profile is soft and rounded, vanilla, caramel and cocoa over gentle wood, with dried fruit in support, and on the palate it reads as distinctly sweet. In the interest of honesty this is a sweeter style of rum, undemanding and dessert friendly rather than bone dry, comfortable for drinkers who enjoy the gentler end of the spectrum but a little sugary for those chasing structure and grip. At a mild 40% it makes an unfussy after dinner glass, good neat or alongside cake and pastries.
