Description
A distillery release of Glenfarclas, a 10 year old, from 2011, at 60.2%. Glenfarclas is a Speyside single malt drawn from the largest, direct fired stills in Speyside. It has been run by six generations of the Grant family, one of Scotch whisky's last truly independent houses. It holds some sixty eight thousand casks on site in dunnage warehouses, with stock from every year since 1953.
Taken gently through wash and spirit stills, building a deep malt of dried fruit and dark sugar. Maturation came in an Oloroso sherry cask, layered over the full Glenfarclas make. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the orchard notes deepening to sultana, date and chocolate. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Speyside body. The full spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out its darker register. Active wood drives the maturation, the cask deep in the malt.
At a natural 60.2% it is full and rich. A deep, dark sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The mouthfeel is full and coating, the fruit dark and sweet. The finish is long, rich and spiced. This is a deep, sherried Speyside single malt.
