Glendronach 20 Years Old

This official Glendronach, a 20 year old, at 46%. Glendronach is a Highland single malt whose founder was an early champion of sherry cask maturation. Its water is the Dronac Burn, which also gave the distillery its name. Its whisky is now overseen by the master blender Dr Rachel Barrie. It joined William Teacher and Sons in 1960 and became a core malt of the Teacher's blend. It was mothballed in 1996 and lay silent until production resumed in 2002. By 1862 it had grown into the largest duty paying distillery in the Highlands.

Distilled in copper pot stills, building a deep malt of dried fruit and dark sugar. It was matured in ex-Bourbon oak and finished in a Tawny Port cask, a layer of Tawny Port over the bourbon vanilla. Into oxidative maturity, slow air builds ripe esters and a darker chocolate, fig and date depth. Years in oak deepen the spirit to a darker gold, the body growing rounder and more resinous with time.

Bottled at 46%, it is rounded and full. Orange, raisin and a treacle edge, with a nutty, raisined red fruit from the cask. The body is full and rich, the fruit deep and dark. Dried fruit, spice and a soft oak see it out. This is a deep, sherried Highland single malt.
