Gelas is an Armagnac producer that has turned its hand to ageing rum, and this Double Matured Old Rum carries that signature: a Panamanian column-still molasses rum given a second maturation stage in the house's own casks over an ex-bourbon base. Panama rum in this mould is typically soft and mellow, with vanilla, gentle spice and a rounded body. At 18 years and 46.3% the alcohol sits well integrated rather than hot. The Armagnac influence here is more of a quiet seasoning than a loud finish, so expect the easy, typical Panama character to lead, with the secondary cask adding subtle depth rather than reshaping the spirit.
