Description
Famille Ricci's South Pacific Rare Single Cask is a twenty one year old Fijian rum from the 2004 vintage, a long matured single cask bottled by the French house at a robust 61.5% cask strength. Aged in ex-bourbon, it is a more accessible expression of Fiji's pot still character than its proof suggests.
The profile leans bright and fruity, vanilla, orange peel and butterscotch on the nose, then fruit, vanilla, brown sugar and apricot on the palate, with a fresh, minty, peach laced finish carrying clear bourbon cask influence. Despite the high strength it drinks with restraint, not overly fierce, the long maturation and active cask doing much of the talking. Bottled at full proof, the impression is dry and fruit forward rather than sweetened. It is a poised, characterful single cask, well suited to drinkers who like aged island rum with a generous bourbon accent.
