Description
Encantado is an Espadin mezcal from San Luis del Río, a village whose mezcals tend toward minerality and less smoke, giving them a finer and more delicate frame. It is made by Don Baltazar, who is also behind the Alipús San Luis del Río bottling, so the house lineage is well established in the area. The agave is the cultivated Agave angustifolia that gives mezcal its balanced base.
In the artesanal tradition the Espadin is pit roasted and copper distilled, but the village style keeps the smoke restrained in favour of stone and earth. Source notes point to fruit sweetness and earthy tones on the nose, a mineral palate with a touch of smoke, and a dry medium length mineral finish. Bottled at 43%, it was built with cocktails in mind without putting smoke alone in the foreground.
