Elizabeth Yard Rum Union (Ghana-Vietnam-Philippines)

Rum Union is an unusual three way blend from the bottler Elizabeth Yard, drawing distillate from Ghana, Vietnam and the Philippines into a single island blend at 45.3%. It is an exercise in bringing together less familiar rum origins, and the result is a fruity, sugar forward style with real intensity behind it.

The nose makes an immediate impression, sugarcane sweetness, honeycomb and a syrupy richness arriving up front. The palate turns fruity with honeycomb, banana and spice, while the finish brings dried fruit, woody notes and allspice. There is genuine power here, the rum coming across as quite strong and notably alcoholic, with a long finish carried partly by that warmth. It makes for a characterful introduction to rum from outside the usual map, a bold, fruity pour for those curious about what these emerging origins can do together.
