Description
An official release of Edradour, a 10 year old, from 2013, at 46%, 2485 bottles in all. Edradour is a Highland single malt distilled in a pocket glen near Pitlochry since 1825. A 2018 expansion added a second still house, the production still small and traditional.
The spirit was distilled slowly in the old farm stillhouse on Ben Vrackie water, building the creamy Edradour style. An Oloroso cask held it, shaping the oily spirit over the years. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the malt, the nutty chocolate deepening. Years in oak round the spirit, the dried fruit and chocolate deepening over the oily core. A small distillery and a hands on approach shape every cask by hand. It was bought in 2002 by Andrew Symington of the independent bottler Signatory Vintage. The distillery sits in a pocket glen at Balnauld, in the hills above Pitlochry in Perthshire.
Bottled at 46%, it is rounded. A rich, nutty sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is rich and oily, the full bodied spirit shining through. Dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oak see out a long finish. This is Edradour's full bodied, sherried Highland style.
