Description
Edradour from the distillery, a 13 year old, from 2007, cask 379,381,400,402,408+, at 58.7%, 885 bottles in all. Edradour is a creamy, sherried Highland single malt from one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. It once supplied blends such as House of Lords and King's Ransom.
The spirit was distilled slowly in the old farm stillhouse on Ben Vrackie water, giving the full bodied, creamy Highland spirit. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the oily make lead. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the rich, oily spirit growing creamier. Active wood frames the rich fruit without overwhelming the oily Highland spirit. A small distillery and a hands on approach shape every cask by hand. It is one of the smallest traditional distilleries in Scotland, long run by just two or three hands. A rare Morton refrigerator still cools the wort, one of the last in use in Scotland.
Bottled at a cask strength 58.7%, it is rich. Dried fruit, nut and a soft chocolate, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. The finish is long, oily and gently spiced. This is Edradour's full bodied, sherried Highland style.
