Description
An official release of Edradour, a 12 year old, from 2009, cask 100, at 57.4%, 655 bottles in all. Edradour is a creamy, sherried Highland single malt from one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. It once supplied blends such as House of Lords and King's Ransom.
Drawn off the tiny stills and cooled in worm tubs for an oily make, giving the full bodied, creamy Highland spirit. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working slowly into the rich malt. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and dried fruit. Ben Vrackie water and a long ferment give the rich Edradour make. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the nutty richness growing with time. It is one of the smallest traditional distilleries in Scotland, long run by just two or three hands.
At its natural 57.4% it is rich and full bodied. A rich, oily orchard fruit and almond, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The texture is oily and creamy, the fruit lifted by vanilla. A rich finish ends on dried fruit and a soft oak. This is Edradour's full bodied, sherried Highland style.
