Description
Edradour from the distillery, an 11 year old, from 2013, cask 413,415,417-424, at 60%, 1997 bottles in all. Edradour is a creamy, sherried Highland single malt from one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. It keeps the old ways, with an open cast iron mash tun, Oregon pine washbacks and worm tub condensers.
It was drawn off the tiny stills and cooled in worm tubs for an oily make, for a full, oily make of dried fruit and chocolate. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the oily make lead. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and dried fruit. Active wood frames the rich fruit without overwhelming the oily Highland spirit. A 2018 expansion added a second still house, the production still small and traditional. Ben Vrackie water and a long ferment give the rich Edradour make.
Bottled at a cask strength 60%, it is rich. Dried fruit, chocolate and a nutty oil, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft chocolate and a nutty oil sit behind the cask. A rich finish ends on dried fruit and a soft oak. This is the oily, rich malt of tiny Edradour.
