Description
An official release of Edradour, a 10 year old, from 2013, cask 401-405,407,408,411, at 60.4%, 1745 bottles in all. Edradour is a full bodied, oily Highland malt made on Ben Vrackie water at Pitlochry. A 2018 expansion added a second still house, the production still small and traditional.
The spirit was drawn off the tiny stills and cooled in worm tubs for an oily make, the worm tubs lending a weighty, oily character. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the fruit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the malt, the nutty chocolate deepening. The tiny stills and worm tubs give an oily spirit that takes the cask well. It once supplied blends such as House of Lords and King's Ransom. Years in oak round the spirit, the dried fruit and chocolate deepening over the oily core.
At 60.4%, undiluted, it is deep and concentrated. A rich, oily orchard fruit and almond, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is rich and oily, the full bodied spirit shining through. The close is oily and warming, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a Highland single malt of real character.
