Description
An Edradour of a 10 year old chosen by the German retailer Whisky.de, distilled in 2014, bottled at 46%. Edradour is a small batch Highland malt, owned by the independent bottler Signatory Vintage. It was bought in 2002 by Andrew Symington of the independent bottler Signatory Vintage.
The spirit was run through the small stills with their boil ball purifiers, the worm tubs lending a weighty, oily character. A Port cask held it, shaping the oily spirit over the years. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the malt, the nutty chocolate deepening. The full bodied spirit shows the cask clearly, the sherry and oak to the fore. The tiny stills and worm tubs give an oily spirit that takes the cask well. Active wood frames the rich fruit without overwhelming the oily Highland spirit. Years in oak round the spirit, the dried fruit and chocolate deepening over the oily core.
Bottled at 46%, it is rounded. Chocolate, dried fruit and a waxy oil, with red berry, plum and a dry spice from the cask. The mouthfeel is thick and oily, the fruit on a creamy body. Dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oak see out a long finish. This is Edradour, one of Scotland's smallest distilleries.
