Description
The Pitlochry bottler Signatory Vintage bottled this Edradour, a 10 year old, distilled in 2008, from cask 135, bottled at 46%, one of 789 bottles. Edradour is a Highland single malt from the tiny farm distillery at Pitlochry, long called Scotland's smallest. A rare Morton refrigerator still cools the wort, one of the last in use in Scotland.
Worked through Oregon pine washbacks and tiny stills for a rich, oily spirit, the worm tubs lending a weighty, oily character. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the fruit. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the rich, oily spirit growing creamier. The full bodied spirit shows the cask clearly, the sherry and oak to the fore. The tiny stills and worm tubs give an oily spirit that takes the cask well. The cool Highland air of the glen gives a slow, even maturation in the small Edradour warehouses.
At 46% it is smooth and rich. A full, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. A rich finish ends on dried fruit and a soft oak. This is a creamy, nutty Highland single malt.
