Chamarel makes its rum from fresh pressed sugarcane juice in Mauritius, so this Classic bottling is agricole in style rather than in protected name, the island sitting outside the French Caribbean AOC. Distilled on a column still and bottled unaged at 42 percent, it is pitched at the gentle, accessible end of cane juice rum.
The nose is fruity, leaning on tropical and citrus fruit with a vegetal edge, while the palate stays grassy and creamy over sugarcane with a soft citrus lift, and the alcohol shows a little on a short finish.
