A cask strength Guyanese single cask from Compagnie des Indes, distilled in 2007 and bottled for the Danish market at 14 years from an ex-bourbon barrel, landing at a punchy 62.4% with the spice and dark fruit of aged Demerara.
Description
Compagnie des Indes is a respected, terroir led French bottler that releases its single casks at natural strength, and this 2007 Guyana was set aside for the Danish market. It spent 14 years in an ex-bourbon cask before bottling without dilution at a forceful 62.4%.
The rum is molasses based, distilled on one of DDL's heritage stills at Diamond, with the exact marque left unstated. At this strength the spirit reads rich and intense, with ripe red fruit and a firm woody, spiced backbone typical of aged Demerara at full proof. A drop of water helps open it. This is a bottling for drinkers who want the still character undiluted rather than a soft sipper.
