A light Venezuelan style column still rum aged eight years, leading with cocoa, vanilla and toasted, nutty notes over a drier, slightly woody finish, easy at 40% whether sipped neat or poured into a sweet rum and cola.
Description
Caracas Club Anejo Reserva is an eight year old column still rum in the Venezuelan mould, made from molasses and matured in ex bourbon barrels. The Venezuelan style aims for smoothness and dessert leaning warmth, and this sits in that tradition while keeping things light bodied and accessible at 40%.
The aromas run to tropical fruit, vanilla, toasted oak and honey, while the palate leans on dark chocolate, vanilla and a nutty edge before a drier, slightly woody finish that keeps it from feeling cloying. It is easy and approachable rather than deep or powerful, a soft cocoa and vanilla pour that suits casual neat sipping but really comes alive stretched into a sweet rum and cola, where its gentle, slightly woody character does its best work.
