This Caperdonich was bottled by the bottler Sansibar, a 30 year old, at 51.4%. A soft, fruity malt of pear, cream and gentle spice. One of Speyside’s lost distilleries, silent since 2002. It made a creamy, fruity Speyside malt, distinct from its sister Glen Grant. This is one of Speyside’s vanished single malts.

Description
A Caperdonich of a 30 year old chosen by the bottler Sansibar, distilled in 1992, from cask 121114, bottled at 51.4%, one of 221 bottles. Caperdonich was a Speyside malt distillery, its spirit long destined for blends. Its four stills were dispersed, a pair going as far as Belgium and others to Falkirk.
The spirit was distilled in tall stills with their spherical condensation zone, for the light, creamy, fruity make Caperdonich is known for. First fill bourbon gave it a fuller vanilla and a touch of coconut. In its ethereal years the malt is waxy and oxidative, faded esters and a touch of sotolon (maple, spice). Active wood frames the fruit without smothering the soft, creamy spirit. Chivas released a Secret Speyside range of official Caperdonich in 2019, aged eighteen to thirty years. The light Speyside make gains most of its depth from decades in good oak. No more will ever be made, the distillery silent since 2002.
At a hearty 51.4% it carries real weight. Mango, pear and a soft vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is creamy and fruity, the soft spirit shining through. The finish is long, fruity and waxy. This is a finite single malt from the lost Caperdonich distillery.
