Description
Campbeltown 2016 Hhd (Hogshead Imports) is a blended malt Scotch from Hogshead Imports. It marries malts with Glen Scotia lending a salty, coastal note. The Glen was added to the Scotia name around 1930, the distillery dating to 1832.
Glen Scotia's oily malt rounds it with a coastal, salted edge. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla over the brine. Long ageing turns the fresh citrus towards dried fruit, salted toffee and a soft spice. The slow distillation and shell and tube condensers give the oily Glen Scotia body. The maritime setting on the Kintyre coast threads salt and brine through the spirit. The cool, salt laden Campbeltown air gives a slow, coastal maturation in the warehouses. Its water is drawn from Crosshill Loch above the town. A long ferment gives a fruity make that ages with a coastal, oily grace. It runs a single pair of stills and shell and tube condensers for a slow, oily make.
At cask strength 48% it is full bodied. Sea salt, citrus and a salted toffee run through it, oily and coastal. It is oily and briny, the coastal spirit shining through. The finish is rounded, salted and oily. A characterful blended malt Scotch.
