A 20 year old Hampden under the fruity LROK mark from Cadenhead’s, a single cask at an approachable 50.9% with tropical fruit, banana, light ester polish and well-integrated strength, an easy, mature take on Trelawny funk.
Description
Cadenhead's brings its long whisky-house tradition to this single cask of Hampden, an LROK from the 2000 vintage bottled at 20 years. LROK is one of Hampden's medium, fruit-forward marks, and two decades of ageing plus a measured 50.9% make this the gentler, more drinkable face of the distillery.
Distilled on double-retort pot stills from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon wood, it leads with pineapple, banana and overripe fruit, the funk showing as a light ester polish rather than aggressive solvent. The palate brings pineapple, tropical fruit and a roasted, creamy note over soft oak, and the finish turns dry, woody and banana-led. Certified unsweetened, with the strength well integrated, it drinks as a mature, easygoing sipper that keeps Hampden's fruit identity while smoothing its wilder edges, ideal for anyone who likes the 2000 and 2001 LROKs but wants them soft and approachable.
