A dry, pot still styled rum from 2008 at sixteen years and 50%, pouring out coffee ristretto, dark chocolate, dried banana and liquorice over leather and wood, unsweetened and full of character.
Description
Bottled under Cadenhead's long-running Classic Rum label, this 2008 vintage carries a Barbados country tag but drinks with an unmistakable Guyana accent, the kind of roasted, dark profile drinkers tend to read as Enmore or Diamond. Sixteen years of ageing and a measured 50% give it depth without aggression, and it is left unsweetened so the wood and coffee notes come through clean.
The molasses spirit leans toward the heavier, pot still end, all roasted grain, dried fruit, caramel and chocolate on the nose. The palate is woody and roasted with dark chocolate and dried fruit, the finish long, toasted and woody. It is a characterful sipper rather than a soft one, pitched at drinkers ready for drier, more austere rum, and it offers plenty of flavour for the age at a friendly strength.
