A 1985 Long Pond bottled by Bristol Classic Rum, light and mild for the Wedderburn house, with green apple, citrus and buttery cookie-dough notes over a dry, gently estery finish at 46%.
Description
Bristol Long Pond 1985 comes from Bristol Classic Rum, the long-running English closed-distillery specialist, and captures a softer, more delicate side of Long Pond than its funky Wedderburn reputation suggests. Long Pond in Trelawny is historically a fruit-forward, sometimes polarising pot-still house, but this 1985 vintage reads light and rounded rather than wild.
Distilled from molasses on pot stills and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it shows green apple, citrus and a buttery, cookie-dough sweetness, with a measured ester thread rather than a varnish-heavy one. The finish is dry, warm and lightly estery. Bottled unsweetened at 46%, it is a mild, mellow and slightly astringent Long Pond, the kind of older bottling that rewards patience and shows the gentler face of a famously loud distillery.
