Blue Sail Cruise Edition Vodka

Blue Sail is a French producer, and the Cruise Edition is a special bottling that leans on a maturation step many vodkas skip entirely. After distillation in France, the spirit spends time at rest in selected barrels, and that contact with wood is where its vanilla and light oak character comes from, picked up from compounds in the staves rather than from any flavouring. The base is distilled under strict methods for clarity, then the barrel rest adds a soft, rounded depth on top. Bottled at 40%, it keeps the smoothness of a clean vodka while carrying a faint woody signature that sets it apart from the neutral crowd.

The nose is clear and fresh with vanilla. The palate is mild and rich with vanilla and a touch of oak, leading to a long finish. Because the wood has already given it vanilla and a creamy edge, it makes an unusually good White Russian: build it over ice with coffee liqueur and a float of cream, and the vodka's own vanilla and oak deepen the dessert character instead of staying neutral underneath.
