An 11 year old 1998 Bielle from Marie-Galante, an aged agricole from fresh cane juice, mixing overripe fruit, honey and vanilla with cinnamon warmth and caramel, drying into smoke and spice on the finish at 45%.
Description
Bielle is a Marie-Galante distillery known for cane-variety experiments and high-proof blancs, working entirely from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice. This 1998 Carafe is a long-aged vieux carrying 11 years in ex-bourbon oak, bottled at 45% and sitting under the Guadeloupe IGP rather than the Martinique AOC, with tropical maturation giving it more depth than the age alone suggests.
Distilled on a column still that keeps the green cane character in the spirit, the rum has rounded over time into something warm and dessert-leaning while staying dry. The nose shows overripe fruit, honey and vanilla once rested, the palate brings cinnamon, vanilla, caramel and a gentle warmth, and the finish turns dry and faintly smoky with lingering spice. It can read closed on first pour, so a little rest in the glass rewards patience, revealing a generous, mature Marie-Galante agricole.
