A vintage Marie-Galante agricole from Bielle, pressed from fresh cane juice and bottled at a gentle 42%, soft and honeyed with sugarcane, tropical fruit and marzipan over a saline edge and a spicy, licorice-laced finish.
Description
Bielle on Marie-Galante is known for its cane-variety experiments and characterful agricoles, and this 2006 vintage is a softer, lower-strength expression, pressed from fresh cane juice rather than molasses and bottled at 42%. It shows the gentler, more rounded side of the distillery's range.
The profile is soft and honey-led: a nose of sugarcane, honey, a saline note and a touch of yeast, a palate of honey, tropical fruit and marzipan with a supple texture, then a finish of spice, licorice, sweetness and leather. The cane character stays present beneath the honeyed roundness, and the briny edge gives it a typically Marie-Galante twist. Easygoing at this strength, it is an approachable aged agricole for relaxed neat sipping, where the soft fruit and honey do the talking.
