A cask strength vintage agricole from Bielle on Marie Galante, vivid and gourmand at 52.9 percent with tropical fruit, pineapple, candied citrus and licorice over a peppery, fresh core, intense yet balanced.
Description
Bielle 2003 is a cask strength vintage agricole from Bielle on Marie Galante, the small island off Guadeloupe known for high proof, characterful cane juice rum. A full strength single year from the house is a step up for drinkers ready for vivid agricole with real power.
Distilled from fresh pressed cane juice on a column still and matured in oak, it pairs intensity with notable freshness. The nose is full of vanilla, tropical fruit, pineapple and candied notes, the palate turns to licorice, vanilla, citrus and candied fruit, and the finish stays on licorice, citrus, black pepper and a sweet edge. Bottled unsweetened at 52.9 percent, it is intense yet balanced, with a pastry like richness the producer's fans prize, a serious agricole best taken slowly once the palate is ready for a step up.
