Baoruco’s 21 year Reserva Antigua is a deeply aged Dominican of dried fruit, caramel and vanilla over a woody, raisined core, finishing on allspice and dark chocolate, a rich and rounded old sipper at 40%.
Description
Baoruco Reserva Antigua 21 Anos is a long aged Dominican ron, working the island's signature of amber colour, vanilla and caramelised nuts but with the extra depth of two decades behind it. Distilled from molasses on a column still and matured in ex bourbon casks, it carries woody, dried fruit, caramel and vanilla notes on the nose, the years showing in its darkness and concentration.
The palate is rich and rounded, chocolate, dried fruit and raisin over a clear oak backbone, finishing with allspice, more dried fruit and caramel. At 40% it stays smooth and approachable, the long maturation giving plenty of dried fruit and wood spice. This is a comfortable, dessert leaning old Dominican sipper, the kind of bottle that rewards slow drinking after a meal, with enough oak driven depth to keep the caramel sweetness in good company.
