Bacardi Bacardi Razz

Bacardi Bacardi Razz is a raspberry flavoured spirit from the Puerto Rican giant Bacardi, made from a column still molasses base and presented at a low 32%. It is honestly more a flavoured cocktail ingredient than a rum in any traditional sense, designed to add a bright fruit hit to mixed drinks.

The profile is dominated by intense, candied raspberry, sweet and slightly artificial, over a varnishy, alcoholic note that runs through nose, palate and syrupy finish. It is heavily sweetened and reads closer to a liqueur or mixer than a spirit for slow drinking. Taken neat it simply does not work, but in its intended role, a frozen mojito, a raspberry spritz with lemonade or tonic, it does the job of delivering colour and berry sweetness. Anyone after genuine rum character should look elsewhere, this is a mixer first and last, and best judged on those terms.
