A 25 year old Port Mourant off the legendary double wooden pot still, finished in port casks and bottled at 45%, opening on pencil shavings and fresh green wood before the unmistakable PM signature of anise, liquorice and dark fruit takes hold.
Description
Alambic Port Mourant Diamonds of Demerara 1990 comes off the most famous still in Guyana, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still built from greenheart timber, a configuration no modern still can replicate and the source of the heaviest, most pungent Demerara profile. This is a 25 year old vintage from 1990, the icon of the heritage stills captured at a quarter century of age.
The rum was finished in port casks and bottled at 45%. The nose leads with pencil shavings, fresh green wood and a cedary lift, classic markers of the wooden pot still. Underneath sit the Port Mourant hallmarks, oily texture, anise and liquorice, roasted dark fruit and a touch of leather and raisin. The port finish adds a layer of fruit without smothering that signature timber and tar. This is unmistakable PM, oily and aromatic, the backbone of old Navy rum shown at a graceful age.
