Description
Gran Patrón Piedra Extra Añejo debuted in global travel retail in 2013, marking Patrón’s first extra añejo tequila released initially into duty-free channels where it quickly drew attention for its price point and production method. Produced from 100 % Blue Weber agave grown in the Highlands of Jalisco, the cooked agave is crushed entirely using the traditional tahona stone wheel, a practice now rare in large-scale tequila production. After fermentation and distillation, the spirit is aged for approximately four years in a carefully selected combination of French Limousin and new American oak barrels.
On the nose and palate, expect deep, layered character with cooked agave, vanilla, caramel, dried fruit and subtle toasted oak. The extended time in barrel builds weight and colour without overt astringency, allowing earthy and sweet notes to unfold into a long, measured finish. The tahona process contributes earthier, more integrated agave expression, making the flavour profile distinct from tequilas produced exclusively with modern mechanical mills.
Presentation is part of the package: the tall bottle’s design takes inspiration from the tahona stone itself and is boxed in a substantial case intended for display rather than casual storage. First launched as a travel retail exclusive, Gran Patrón Piedra has since become widely recognised among aged tequila releases due to its unique method, extended ageing and standout presence at the luxury end of the category.
