Description
Aberlour 16 Year Old Double Matured is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky first released in 2003 as part of the distillery’s core range. Developed for international markets, it was designed to offer a more mature and balanced expression of Aberlour’s house style through extended ageing and careful cask selection.
The whisky is matured for sixteen years in a combination of ex bourbon barrels and Oloroso sherry casks. The bourbon casks provide structure, vanilla and gentle sweetness, while the sherry casks contribute dried fruit, soft spice and richness. With additional time in cask, these elements are fully integrated, resulting in a smoother and more composed profile.
On the nose, it shows ripe orchard fruit, raisins, toffee and light spice, followed by honey, vanilla and polished oak. The palate is rounded and easy going, with flavours of dried fruit, milk chocolate, soft caramel and subtle spice. The finish is medium to long, warming and gently sweet, with lingering fruit and oak.
