Brewdog Abstrakt Watermelon X Strawberry Vodka

BrewDog Abstrakt Watermelon x Strawberry comes from the Scottish brewer's distilling side, and like much of its spirits work it is built around a clean base and a bold flavour. The vodka is distilled five times in bespoke copper stills, a repeated run that smooths the texture and uses copper contact to clear out harsher notes, before the fruit flavouring is added. Onto that goes sweet watermelon and fresh strawberry, a juicy, summery pairing, and the whole thing is bottled at 38%, slightly below standard strength to keep it approachable.

The nose is fruity with watermelon and strawberry over a light herbal spice, and the palate is full and sweet with juicy watermelon and strawberry and a faint citrus edge. The finish is long and refreshing with the fruit lingering. To play the watermelon up in a long, summery drink, build a watermelon spritz: pour the chilled vodka over ice, top with soda and a splash of lemonade, and add a few fresh strawberry slices, so the carbonation lightens the sweetness and the fresh fruit echoes what is already in the bottle.
