    Nikka Coffey Vodka

    700 ml / 40%
    Plain Vodka

    $52

Nikka Coffey Vodka comes from the Japanese whisky house Nikka and borrows its whisky-making method. It is distilled from corn and rice in a Coffey still, the old continuous still usually used for grain whisky. That approach leaves more character than most vodka, with soft floral and fruity notes.

Nikka Coffey Vodka is made by Nikka, the celebrated Japanese whisky producer, and it carries a clear fingerprint of that craft. The base is a mix of corn and rice: corn brings a sweet, soft neutrality while rice adds a rounded gentleness, and together they give an easy, smooth texture. The standout is the Coffey still, a continuous still developed for whisky and named after its inventor. Rather than strip the spirit completely clean, this still leaves a little more flavour behind, which is why the vodka is more expressive than the category norm. It is bottled at 40%.

The nose is fresh with white flowers, citrus and a hint of rice. The palate is soft and smooth with floral notes, green apple and a light sweetness from the rice and corn, and the finish is long and lightly creamy. Those delicate floral and orchard-fruit notes deserve a gentle showcase, so build a Vodka Collins: shake with fresh lemon and a little sugar, top with soda over ice and add a thin apple slice to echo the green-apple note.
