Description
Ferdinand's Riesling Liqueur is a German fruit liqueur built on the Riesling grape, bottled at 22% by Capulet and Montague. It marries Riesling wine from the Mosel region to hand picked fruit from the Saar, the wine drawn from steep slate slopes that lend it a fresh, fruity character. From the makers of a gin built on Riesling grapes, the liqueur carries that same regional thread, its fresh grape and orchard fruit the defining note rather than heavy sweetness.
The nose is intense and fruity with citrus, honey notes and fresh meadow flowers, the palate light, elegant and well balanced with ripe apple, white peach and melon, finishing long and balanced. Behind the bar its bright fruit and gentle acidity make it a lifting modifier, adding orchard fruit, a honeyed note and a fresh edge to sparkling and citrus drinks. The maker points it at a Riesling Fizz, built with the house Saar dry gin, lemon juice and soda, and it works just as well topped with sparkling wine as an aperitif. Serve it chilled, neat or over ice, or use a measure to lift a fizz or a spritz.
