Description
Entendusel is an Austrian herbal liqueur from the Freihof distillery, bottled at 36% and made from a complex blend of selected herbs, roots and spices. It is built on a gentle maceration of traditional medicinal and spice plants, allowed to develop slowly so the flavours integrate, in the traditional macerated style of bittersweet herbal liqueurs. The result balances sweet, bitter and spicy in one glass, with the higher strength giving it warmth and an intense herbal structure.
The nose is complex and herbal with hints of roots, spices and a subtle caramel, the palate strong, spicy and slightly sweet with cinnamon, clove, liquorice and bitter herbs, finishing long, warming and harmonious with a fine bitterness. Behind the bar it works as a bittersweet herbal modifier, adding herbal depth, baking spice and a clean bitter backbone to a stirred or spirit forward drink much as a herbal digestif would. It is ideal neat at room temperature or over ice as a digestif after a hearty meal, unfolds well in hot drinks such as tea or mulled wine, and brings a warm spiced note to winter cocktails.
