Verpoorten Original Eierlikör is among the best known egg liqueurs from Germany, made to the secret family recipe of Eugen Verpoorten and long established as a classic of the style. An advocaat style egg liqueur is built on egg yolk blended with spirit and sugar and usually vanilla, rested to a thick, custardy texture, and this original is bottled at 20% ABV. The brand pairs long experience with consistent quality across a wide range.
The nose is sweetish and creamy with subtle vanilla and egg, the palate full bodied, creamy and mildly sweet with a classic eggnog aroma, and the finish soft, round and long. Behind the bar it brings rich body, custard sweetness and a warm yellow colour, which makes it the base of a Snowball with lemonade, a creamy layer in dessert shots, or a smoothing component in after dinner builds. It is also a favourite in the kitchen for cakes, creams, ice cream and fruit.
