Italy’s defining amaretto, its almond note conjured from apricot kernels rather than nuts, steeped with burnt sugar and seventeen botanicals to a marzipan sweet 28%; in a mix it brings nutty sweetness and stone fruit body.

Description
Disaronno carries a legend reaching back to 1525 and the town of Saronno, where the tale tells of an innkeeper gifting the painter Bernardino Luini a flask of apricot infused liqueur. Its signature almond character is in fact a trick of the apricot kernel, not any tree nut, layered with burnt sugar and the essences of seventeen herbs and fruits, and bottled at 28% in its familiar square decanter.
Sweet and velvety, all marzipan, vanilla and soft stone fruit, it works behind the bar as a nutty sweetener with real body. It carries the Amaretto Sour, turns a Scotch into a Godfather and a Cognac into a French Connection, and a splash rounds out coffee, cola or a Manhattan riff. For the back bar it is the almond note most guests already know by name.
