Description
Ciemme Limoncello is an Italian lemon liqueur made in the traditional way by slowly macerating hand picked lemon peel in alcohol, drawing the essential oils that give limoncello its fresh, intense flavour. It is bottled at 34%, a notably higher strength than many lemon liqueurs, which sharpens its citrus intensity and sets it apart from softer, sweeter examples.
The nose is fresh lemon zest and intense citrus oils with a subtle sweetness and light herbal notes, the palate full bodied and fruity with intense lemon, a subtle bitter edge from the peel and a balance of sweetness and acidity, closing long and slightly tart. Behind the bar that bright zest and higher proof are useful: it lends sharp lemon flavour, aromatic lift and acidity that cuts through a drink. It carries a Limoncello Spritz with Prosecco, lifts a sour or a fizz, and is traditionally served ice cold straight from the freezer as a digestif.
