Penninger Blutwurz Kräuter Likör is a herbal liqueur from Penninger, a Bavarian family distillery known for regional spirits since 1905. It takes its name from the root of the bloodroot, Potentilla erecta, long used in folk medicine and as a flavouring, and is made to a tried and tested family recipe from natural ingredients. At 50% by volume in a 70cl bottle, it is one of the strongest and most distinctive of its kind.

The nose is strongly herbal with earthy, spicy and slightly resinous notes, the palate full bodied with intense herbs, a slightly smoky edge, bitter oranges and a subtle sweetness, closing long and warming with a fine bitter note. In a drink it brings rooty bitterness, herbal depth and real strength, a backbone for a bracing digestif serve. It is traditionally taken neat and ice cold, which sharpens its herbal and root character, and suits an after dinner pour alongside hearty Bavarian fare.
