Description
Caballito Cerrero Blanco 46 Azul is an agave spirit from Amatitan in the Jalisco lowlands, made by the Jimenez family, whose roots trace to the Herradura dynasty. It is distilled from blue Weber agave, the only species tequila allows, yet the producer deliberately bottles it as a destilado de agave rather than tequila, choosing tradition over the labelling rules of the Consejo Regulador del Tequila.
Founded in 1968 by Don Alfonso Jimenez Rosales, the house works in an old fashioned style that sometimes falls outside the legal tequila definition. The spirit shows cooked agave with a little smoke, grassy and lightly mineral notes and a citrus minty lift, then opens into fruity components and a touch of cinnamon on the palate. An easy sipping blanco bottled at 46 percent.
