Description
Clase Azul Mezcal Durango is a joven mezcal made from wild Cenizo, Agave durangensis, which grows across the northern state of Durango. Mineral rich soil and natural spring water shape a smoky, complex character, and the spirit is presented in a black clay decanter handmade by Mazahua and Wixarika artisans, each bottle individual.
Durango cenizo tends to be fruity and almost creamy with sweet, burnt caramel notes picked up from its mesquite scrub terrain. The distillation follows handcrafted methods, and the nose carries citrus and herbs, green olive, cooked agave and clove over clear smoke. The palate is smoky and layered, with peanut, brown sugar, honey, wood, chocolate and ripe fruit. Bottled at 44%, it pairs well with oily fish and shellfish such as scallop, lobster and tuna.
