Description
Padre Azul is an Austrian founded brand made at Tequila Tres Mujeres in Amatitan, in the Valles lowlands of Jalisco, and is best known for its skull capped, leather bound bottle. This is the anejo, distilled from Blue Weber agave and rested eighteen months in oak, here paired with two tasting glasses. Hans Peter Eder inherited a passion for distilling from his father and built the line in partnership with a local family.
Eighteen months in wood pushes the spirit toward the dark end of the cask spectrum, with coffee, caramel and vanilla rising over a note of caramelised nuts. The palate is full and softly sweet, well balanced and long on the finish. Lowland agave gives a firmer, more mineral backbone beneath the barrel sweetness, and a tumbler shaped glass opens the aromatics more than a shot glass would.
