Description
Villa Lobos Tequila Extra Añejo is a long aged 100% Blue Weber tequila from Los Altos, made at the La Alteña distillery in Arandas, NOM 1139, by the well known maestro tequilero Carlos Camarena. The highland agave grows on the family's own iron rich fields above 2,000 metres, a terroir that tends toward floral sweetness and a fine, earthy minerality. The brand is no longer in production, and this is remaining stock from the maker.
The maturation is unusual: the spirit first rests about six months in open steel tanks, then ages four years in American oak. That sequence keeps the agave alive against the wood, giving a nose of sweet vanilla, creamy caramel and mild oak with fresh agave, lemon and mint behind it. The palate is velvety and maple sweet with buttery toast, while soft pepper and dark toffee fade through a long finish. Bottled at 40%.
