Description
Tradicional is the entry tier of José Cuervo, the brand built around La Rojeña in the town of Tequila, the oldest active distillery in the Valles lowlands of Jalisco. It is a 100% agave tequila made from Blue Weber, a step up from the house mixto lines, and the reposado spends a minimum of two months in oak before bottling at 38%.
The agave is steam cooked in the standard Valles fashion and twice distilled. The short rest in oak adds a gentle straw colour and a layer of vanilla and honey over a still present cooked agave core, with a touch of baking spice on a soft, rounded finish. It reads as an honest, everyday agave reposado in the savoury lowland register rather than a heavily wooded one, designed to sit comfortably in cocktails and over ice.
