Sweet-spiced and mellow, with liquorice, coriander and cinnamon over fine juniper, rounded by a whisper of vanilla. A London Dry from Belgium’s Bruggeman distillery, dressed in a nostalgic 1940s earthenware bottle and named for the Flanders poppy. Smooth, balanced and quietly poignant.

Poppies Gin is a London Dry from Belgium, distilled by the long-established Bruggeman house and built on a traditional botanical bill of juniper, coriander, angelica root, orange peel and warm spice. Its name honours the poppy that in Flanders remembers the fallen of the First World War, and the nostalgic earthenware bottle, styled after the 1940s, carries that memory into the present. The botanicals are macerated and distilled in a measured balance that keeps the gin classic rather than showy.

The nose pairs fine juniper with sweet-spiced liquorice, coriander and cinnamon. The palate is smooth and balanced, herbal spice meeting a light citrus freshness with a hint of vanilla and liquorice, and the finish is mild, gently sweet and softly juniper-led. Build a gin and tonic with a quality Mediterranean tonic, an orange zest and a cinnamon stick, or stir it into a Negroni where its sweet spice can shine.
