Opihr Oriental Spiced London Dry Gin (Gift Box)

    700 ml / 42.5%
    London Dry

    $45

A warm, spice-route gin built on Indian black pepper, Moroccan coriander and Indonesian cubeb, with bright orange peel cutting through the heat. Distilled at one of England’s oldest houses in the London Dry tradition, it carries genuine oriental depth and a peppery, dry finish. The globe glass in the box is half the fun.

Opihr takes its cue from the old spice route that once carried botanicals from the Orient to Europe, and assembles its bill accordingly. Made at G&J Distillers, one of England's oldest gin houses, it follows the classic London Dry method but loads it with hand-picked spices from along the route: Indian black pepper, Moroccan coriander, Turkish cumin and Indonesian cubeb, with orange peel and juniper holding the centre. The gift box and its little globe glass play up the sense of journey.

The nose is intense juniper laced with oriental spice and orange peel. The palate turns full-bodied and warm, pepper and cardamom rolling against fresh citrus, before a long, dry, peppery finish. It makes a bold G&T with Indian tonic and an orange twist, or stiffen a Negroni with it for genuine spiced backbone.
